The Archimedes Technology Transfer and Innovation Unit of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens invite you to the event titled «From Ancient Wisdom to Future Innovation: The Role of the University of Athens», organized as part of the Panathenea 2026 festival. The Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation hosts the professional development seminar organised by the Directorate of Primary Education of Piraeus, in collaboration with the NKUA Applied Philosophy Research Laboratory, on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, at 15:00, at the Historical Library of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation.

A special issue of the journal Pedagogikos Logos has been published, dedicated to questions that currently shape the academic debate on the philosophy and ethics of AI. The guest editors of the volume are Thomas Giourgas, Alkis Gounaris and Giorgos Kosteletos.

The edited volume Animal Cognition and Consciousness, edited by Alkis Gounaris, has been published and is now available from The NKUA Applied Philosophy Research Lab Press and the National Documentation Centre (EKT). The volume includes essays by 25 graduates and final-year students of the MA Animal Welfare, Ethics and the Law.

The first Philosophy Masterclass of 2026 took place on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, in the packed IC Hall of the Alexandra Martinos Building at the College of Athens. The event was organized by the Philosophy-Governance-Economics Laboratory (PPE Lab) of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in collaboration with the Athens College Junior High School.

Exactly twenty years after DASEIN LAB started the Philosophy Café and hosted more than 150 philosophical events from 2006 to 2016 - with the support and participation of distinguished representatives of letters and the arts - a group of students and lecturers from the MA Programme in Philosophy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) is reviving this tradition.

Tools like ChatGPT can offer facts, but they fail to capture the deeper complexities of life—those moments of doubt, moral struggle, and emotional depth,” states Alkis Gounaris, a professor of philosophy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. “When humans defer entirely to algorithms, the rich tapestry of human thought—characterized by doubt, curiosity, and reflection—begins to unravel. We lose the capacity to ask the ‘why’ behind the ‘what.

The Institute for Ethics in AI (Professor John Tasioulas), in collaboration with Stanford University (Professor Josiah Ober) and Greece's National Center for Scientific Research «Demokritos» (Professor George Nounesis) will hold a one-day conference on AI ethics called 'The Lyceum Project' in Athens on June 20th, 2024.
