The edited volume Animal Cognition and Consciousness, edited by Alkis Gounaris, has been published and is now available from The NKUA Applied Philosophy Research Lab Press and the National Documentation Centre (EKT). The volume includes essays by 25 graduates and final-year students of the MA Animal Welfare, Ethics and the Law.

In this publication, the documentation framework and the practical value of the EPR digital philosophical tool are presented. The tool is designed to enhance collaboration across heterogeneous scientific disciplines operating under interdisciplinary conditions, and is particularly beneficial for early-career researchers, doctoral candidates, and postgraduate students, insofar as it identifies points of convergence or divergence in the participants’ initial epistemological and metaphysical assumptions they bring to team research. This paper explores the application of Aristotelian virtue, as a quality of excellence and as a key notion in ethics, to AI systems as classified in the EU AI Act. It suggests that the Aristotelian concept of virtue can be effectively applied to the design, training, operation, and use of AI systems, and proposes an ‘AI Seal of Excellence’ certification process for “Virtuous Agents” [CONATUS, 2025]
